IT WAS FIRST INTRODUCED IN 1975 BY SIEMENS AG AS A REPLACEMENT FOR THE EWSA (ANALOG TECHNOLOGY). EWSD (ALSO KNOWN AS ELECTRONIC DIGITAL SWITCHING SYSTEM/ELECTRONIC WORLD SWITCH DIGITAL IN ENGLISH), CAN WORK AS BOTH A TANDEM AND LOCAL FOR LANDLINE AND MOBILE TELEPHONY, AND IT CAN ALSO SERVE AS A SERVICE SWITCHING POINT (SSP) AND A SIGNAL TRANSPORT POINT (STP) IN THE INTELLIGENT NETWORK (IN). NOKIA AND SIEMENS FORMED A NEW COMPANY IN 2007 CALLED NOKIA SIEMENS NETWORKS, UNDER WHICH THE EWSD SYSTEM IS CURRENTLY SUPPORTED.

EWSD

The EWSD switch (Elecktronisches Wahlsystem Digital) is a telephone digital switching (exchange) system installed worldwide. It was first introduced in 1975 by Siemens AG as a replacement for the EWSA (analog technology). EWSD (also known as Electronic Digital Switching System/Electronic World Switch Digital in English), can work as both a tandem and local for landline and mobile telephony, and it can also serve as a Service Switching Point (SSP) and a Signal Transport Point (STP) in the Intelligent Network (IN). Nokia and Siemens formed a new company in 2007 called Nokia Siemens Networks, under which the EWSD system is currently supported.
