EWSD

The EWSD switch (Elecktronisches Wahlsystem Digital) is a telephone digital switching (exchange) system installed worldwide. It was first introduced in 1975 by Siemens AG as a replacement for the EWSA (analog technology). EWSD (also known as Electronic Digital Switching System/Electronic World Switch Digital in English), can work as both a tandem and local for landline and mobile telephony, and it can also serve as a Service Switching Point (SSP) and a Signal Transport Point (STP) in the Intelligent Network (IN). Nokia and Siemens formed a new company in 2007 called Nokia Siemens Networks, under which the EWSD system is currently supported.
